Amy McGillivray

Born in Sydney N.S.W in 1982, Amy is one of 5 children who grew up primarily in the Hills Area.  Amy attended most of her schooling at Lorien Novalis School for Steiner Education in Glenhaven NSW.  Amy flourished in artistic subjects such as music, art, drama and design.

This type of school harnessed the aspects of the child’s personal aspirations and talents, Amy excelled with this approach to teaching.  Amy was always part of the class drama production, participating in many areas.  This school went on many educational trips.  In 1994 Amy travelled with her class to Bali, seeing most of the island staying in remote villages on the way, where the class partook in a traditional Indonesian dance, also undertaking a woodwork class and bartique (silk design.) Amy also travelled around Australia with her class, learning many survival techniques and life lessons along the way.

Amy completed studying at Lorien Novalis in 1999 working firstly at Dymocks bookshop café where she was a barrista and waitress. Amy then begun working as legal secretary for her Father Ian McGillivray, also working weekends at the Record Store, Darlinghurst Sydney this tied into Amys very passionate hobby for D.Jing (primarily hip hop based music).  Whilst working for the Record Store Amy hit a break, whilst playing around on the turntables during business hours Amy was heard by Local (then Sydney, now Melbourne) based M.C Macromantics (Romy Hoffman) who had set a solid print for herself in the Australian Hip Hop Scene. Romy employed Amy to d.j for her as she had recently released an E.P Hyperbolic Logic. Macromantics also went onto release Moments in Movement in 2003.

Romy and Amy have travelled all around Australia (SYD, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, TAS) also to many remote rural areas to play shows.   They have played various Festivals such as; Big Day Out,  Homebake, Falls Festival, Meredith, Groove in the Moo, St Jeromes Laneway Festival etc.  They have also supported many international acts such as; Lilly Allen, Dizzy Rascal, Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Jean Grae, Erase Erada, Peaches, C.S.S and many others.

Amy and Romy toured the United States of America twice, seeing and playing in most states they attended. Macromantics was invited to play at the exclusive, internationally renowned South by South West music festival in Texas.  In the USA, Macromantics toured with various artists such as Sage Francis, Deerhoof and Pigeon John.

Since then Amy has been D.Jing in various clubs, pubs and bars throughout Sydney and has joined Mas-siva, a local hip-hop collective, for the release of their self titled debut album, and are currently touring the Album.

Amy is also in the last year of her Conveyancing Advanced Diploma, once Amy completes this study and applies for her Conveyancing License she will be able to complete the legal side of purchasing and selling property, leasing, purchase and sale of business and other commercial transactions.

Amy continues to work full time for her Father at McGillivray Solicitors.  In which some day she hopes to take over and convert to Conveyancing Office.
